50 Ethiopian, Somali migrants feared dead in Yemen waters

Up to 50 Somalis and Ethiopians are feared dead after a smuggler taking dozens of migrants to Yemen forced them back into the Arabian Sea off the nation’s coast, the UN migration agency said. Survivors of the incident told the International Organization for Migration that the smuggler pushed them back into the water after he saw “authority types,” according to Laurent de Boeck, the IOM Yemen Chief of Mission, in press statement posted to the group’s website. “This is shocking and inhumane,” de Boeck said. “The suffering of migrants on this migration route is enormous. Too many young people pay smugglers with the false hope of a better future.” Up to 50 Somalis and Ethiopians are feared dead after a smuggler taking dozens of migrants to Yemen forced them back into the Arabian Sea off the nation’s coast, the UN migration agency said. Khat has negative impact on somali society-Somali President

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was speaking at public releasing conference held in the Somali capital bore witness that the Miraa or Khat has huge impact on the lives of millions of Somali people and his government is deeply aware of that. We spend thousand of Dollars to import into the country daily and nearly uncountable numbers of our people consume and chew Miraa or Khat, president Hassan said–adding that the Miraa also plays gigantic role of causing insecurity in the country. “Some countries in the world recognized the Khat as intoxicant or drugs  and banned legally,” Hassan said urging that those of Khat sellers involved to pay tax on Khat.
