Khat has negative impact on somali society-Somali President

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was speaking at public releasing conference held in the Somali capital bore witness that the Miraa or Khat has huge impact on the lives of millions of Somali people and his government is deeply aware of that. We spend thousand of Dollars to import into the country daily and nearly uncountable numbers of our people consume and chew Miraa or Khat, president Hassan said–adding that the Miraa also plays gigantic role of causing insecurity in the country. “Some countries in the world recognized the Khat as intoxicant or drugs  and banned legally,” Hassan said urging that those of Khat sellers involved to pay tax on Khat. Khat is one of the ever-ending challenges we faced since the overthrown of central government of Somalia in 1991.
